Let's face it, team driving is different than solo. Ask any long time driver who begins teaming with a spouse after 15 or 20 years as a solo! All of my driving experience has been as part of a team. These are some of the things I can't do without when team driving. I'll be interested to hear what others think is important!
1. My Husband: OK, I'm only half joking. I think its really important to drive with a team mate that you know well and can trust. Team drivers spend weeks at a time living together in a space that's smaller than most bedrooms! You'd better at least like each other! That's why Wolenski Trucking only works with established teams.
2. A portable toilet: This one might seem a bit frivolous. But seriously, if you want to be productive as a team, you've got to keep the wheels moving. If you need to make stops to cater to 2 bladders, that's twice as many stops. You can pick up a port-a-potty at any Wal Mart. Be sure to get the chemical deodorizer too!
3. Ear Plugs: A very simple and inexpensive item, but essential for a light sleeper like me!
4. Audio Books: Over the past several years, working and living on the road, Tom & I have both become big fans of 'listening' to books. Every time we'd go home, I'd head for the local library & borrow 8-10 books on CD. It's very easy to copy them onto your computer, then upload onto an ipod or other player. Or you can just bring the CD along & listen that way. We also joined Audible.com, a website where you can download books. It's very reasonable, especially if you watch for their specials!
5. A Refrigerator/Cooler: Through the years, we've had everything from a nice, built-in fridge in the truck, to a cheap styro cooler! You'll save a ton of money, and eat much better if you can keep some snacks & easy meals in your truck.
